Application Virtualization Comparison Chart Illustrates Technical Decision Complexity

A few years ago when application virtualization wasn’t very prevalent, the choices were few so the technical solutions were easy. Today that isn’t the case. The field is getting crowded and companies deciding to leverage application virtualization need to now look for consulting guidance to match business requirements with technical solutions.

To give you a better idea of how complex it is, the guys over at virtualfuture.info put together a really good comparison chart of application virtualization products. They did a detailed breakout of features on the top 6  of 12 vendors including Citrix, Microsoft, VMWare, Symantec, Xenocode and InstallFree.

To demonstrate how rapidly this list is changing, they left out Novell.

Citrix XenApp 5

I was reading about the new features of XenApp 5. It looks like Citrix is really raising the Application  Virtualization bar high.  Citrix does have the historic advantage on the competition and it appears that they just aren’t depending on their strong history of application delivery, but are advancing the end user experience.

It also looks like Citrix is also successfully navigating the Microsoft partnership pretty well. Microsoft is a sponsor of the XenApp 5 launch event.
