Mountain Lion Dictate Quick Review

It’s funny how marketing sometimes misses the most useful things a product offers. Without much fanfare Apple released Mountain Lion. It has the dictate feature that actually works very well.

In fact, I am dictating this blog post with Mountain Lion dictate and I’ve had to make very few corrections.

To be fair, I would say that most of the corrections are more in line with what you don’t think about in conversational English; the mistakes that are commonly made when you’re forming a sentence on the fly.

Even more impressive is the fact that I am considered to be from the southern United States being from Kentucky so I guess dictate can speak a little southern too. It even recognized y’all! I guess that stands to reason since it is a mountain lion. :)

Update:

Several months later, I can update that unlike many cool toys and utilities that are fun to try then go away, I use Dictate regularly.  I generate content much faster and am still amazed how accurate Dictate works.

One thing I didn’t mention before is I don’t use a separate microphone, I just use the built in microphone with the Mac Book Air.
